The Great AI Debates

As this is my first post of 2024. I want to say “Happy New Year.” But I can’t believe it is already Jan 31st, and it feels a bit too late to say that now. I must apologize for going radio silent for almost an entire month. Since January is the slowest time of the year for me in terms of travel, I’ve scheduled several health-related procedures, so I have ample time to recover. And I had 3 such procedures and was recovering for most of January. I was not even cleared to fly (due to the pressure difference) until Jan 30th by my surgeon.

Nevertheless, I had the opportunity to participate in a couple of great AI debates with Jon Reed (Co-Founder of Diginomica). As 2023 was an inflection point for AI awareness there is a lot of hype about this decades-old technology that has already gone through 2 “AI winters.” That means AI has essentially been through 2 hype cycles already, and it’s again hyped up for the third time now. Will this be just another hype, or this time is different? As I am a cautious optimist and Jon is a very well-grounded industry practitioner, we will naturally agree to disagree on some points. These spirited discussions, as Jon would call them, were recorded by CRM Konvos with colorful commentaries, which you can watch at your leisure.

The Great AI Debate 2

This is certainly a great starter to explore the vast topic around GenAI. But there are still many topics we have not got a chance to explore, such as deepfakes, ethics, creativity, disinformation, and even impacts on democracy, and more. So there might very well be a part 3 of this Great AI Debate coming later this year. So stay tuned!
